little still

Writing prompt: For this week’s prompt, write a poem about something in the room (or space) you’re sitting. The poem could be about a physical object in the room (or space).

i sit

dwarfed by it

like the end seat at the Woolworths counter at Christmas time

gram in a booth behind me

ripping the ends off her grilled cheese

as i burn the roof of my mouth on the fries i craved

this midnight turning dawn i am in awe

of how large my dining room table actually is

as i tuck my feet under me on the wrap around leather bench

wishing i waited until sunrise so i could enjoy caramel coffee with this poem

but then i wouldn’t have remembered gram feeding pigeons her crusts at Christmas
